Economy, Taxes and More—Oh My

Just last week, I attended the Independent Glass Association and National Windshield Repair Association annual conferences in Fort Myers, Fla. While there, I talked to a number of attendees about their biggest challenges in business (you can view video footage of some of their answers here). In the past, it’s seemed that when I asked this, the top item I usually heard was working with insurers; combating steering; and items of this nature.

But this year, several mentioned to me that their challenges have more to do with holding on to good employees, working in a difficult economy and even dealing with changes in the U.S. tax structure that is costing them more as small businesses.

There’s a lot out there to juggle right now. This business has always been one that’s tough, but today, it seems sometimes it’s even tougher as the economy works to rebound.

So, I’m wondering, are you experiencing the same challenges? And, if not, what are your challenges? Has the economy taken a toll on your business, or is working with insurers and networks still a struggle? Please e-mail your thoughts to me at pstacey@glass.com.
